Massage & Bodywork

“A really good massage!”

Massage provides total relaxation, eases muscle tension, promotes mental and emotional wellbeing, aids skin condition and hormonal balancing. I use a variety of techniques including Swedish, deep tissue, hands free massage, reiki, and Indian Head massage. I have 16 years experience as a massage therapist.

 Indian Head Massage (IHM)

IHM is a traditional-style massage that has been used to maintain health and promote the flow of prana (life force energy) in Indian culture for centuries. It is amazingly effective, for head-clearing, deep relaxation and stress relief, and stimulation. The massage is carried out sitting upright in a comfortable massage chair and is clothed. Coconut Oil is used on the neck and face, and the hair if desired.

For the 1 hour treatment, there is the addition of chakra balancing, which involves a light pressure still touch from the therapist, moving through the upper chakra points on the back and holding the head. This is a very calming end to the treatment.

Brought to the UK in the 1970s by Narendra Mehta, who believed strongly in its potential to help stressed out Westerners sitting at desks all day long and/or in need of the healing power of touch to shift stagnant energy. Mr Mehta’s vision was for IHM to be made available to all in parks, clinics and within families. See great article showing the far reaching benefits of IHM: Indian Head Massage Article

I am have completed an Advanced IHM Course and I have been practicing since 2005.

I am the Tutor for the Diploma in Indian Head Massage at the School of Bodywork in Exeter, a course for qualified massage therapists.

It is generally received lying down, fully clothed and involves light touch. Reiki can also be carried out on my massage chair, eg for those with mobility issues/ adapted for pregnant clients.
