Baby Massage, Baby Yoga, Postnatal Recovery Yoga
The first three months after birth are often referred to as the ‘ fourth trimester’, as babies need to remain close to their Mothers and require a nurturing, safe, low stimulation environment to ease the transition from womb to world! For Mums, this is a time of enourmous change, physical and emotional demands, and the need for nurture and rest is huge.
Postnatal recovery yoga is specially adapted to the first 3 months of Motherhood: deeply nourishing, relaxing and focused on realigning , and arriving in this new, post- natal body!
Baby Massage is about loving touch, enhancing development, and creating special time for bonding between parent and baby from very early on in life. We learn a full body massage routine, week by week, which will give you a toolkit for dealing with many common newborn issues such as tummy discomfort, colic, wind, fussing; and a foundation for massaging your child through the years to come!
The Classes
These classes, which follow the Birthlight baby nurture philosophy, offer more than other baby massage classes as they include elements of baby yoga and nurturing yoga for Mums too. For babies, gentle hip sequence movements help to ease wind and tummy pains, and holds can help soothe and settle babies. For Mums, the classes include gentle stretches, energising and relaxing breathing practices and tips for lifting, carrying and soothing babies without strain. If it is appropriate for your stage of postnatal healing will cover the yoga approach to post-birth pelvic floor and abdominal toning . We end with a quiet relaxation which will recharge you for the rest of the day, and of course there is a chance to meet (and have tea and cake, when it is a physical class!) with other Mums of very young babies in a small and nurturing group.
A 5 week course gives you the opportunity to learn to massage your baby, and look after yourself too. When we feel grounded, safe and rested, we can enjoy our babies! Happy Mama, Happy Baby!
